draft rules

If you've been banned, make sure to join the Ban Appeal Server. Everyone is entitled to one ban appeal, which is used when appealing a valid ban. We do sometimes offer second chances at our discretion. If it's been a while, consider asking for another chance via a ticket in the CMC Discord.

You are responsible for all actions taken through your account.
Do not use LLMs, AI, or other automated means to communicate on your behalf. Even if unintentional, any actions taken by you via these systems are your responsibility and will be punished accordingly.

Let the streamers play!

Interacting with a streamer on the server should not be your main priority while on the server. If you're unsure where to drop off a gift for a given streamer, please contact staff rather than interrupting the livestream for help figuring that out. Otherwise, avoid forcibly inserting yourself into stream interactions as much as possible.

If you're being forced by a forcefield, that is your warning to leave. Hanging around nearby afterwards may result in you being kicked, killed, or banned depending on how obnoxious you're being. Being loud or intentionally disruptive during a stream is grounds for at least a temporary ban.

Organic interactions with streamers are, of course, encouraged and allowed. Trying to hijack the entire stream with your bit is generally a bad idea. If you're not sure if that applies to you, it probably does and we'd ask that you error in the safe side.

No griefing or stealing

SMPOnline is NOT an anarchy server! All player-made creations should be left alone unless you have permission or otherwise reasonable cause to mess with them. This includes unwanted additions to another players build. Unclaimed blocks or items should not be taken if they're not yours. Don't kill or steal mobs that belong to other players.

Lava casts are almost never allowed on SMPOnline and may result in a ban, especially if they're intruding on other player's land. It's perfectly fine to use a lava cast to help with a build your making, but please be mindful of other players around you.

Don't build anything to deliberately annoy someone on the server. Don't let mobs out of their cages, abuse gaps in claims, or claim around another user to cause issues for them. Abuse of the claiming system is griefing and will result in a punishment.

Randomly killing other players is not allowed, including via player traps. Don't attempt to steal items from other players or otherwise ruin their experience on the server. If your build is hazardous to players, please make sure it's marked with a sign to avoid new players accidentally dying.

Do not kill trial players to end their trial. All players are entitled to their full trial period. Trials are only intended to end if a player dies via survival causes, such as hostile mobs or their own mistake. Purposely ending someone's trial may result in a ban.

Keep all activity appropriate

SMPOnline is a mature, adult-oriented community. All in-game content and conduct must be appropriate for stream at a minimum, including any use of mods, books, signs, builds, etc.

The Twitch Community Guidelines are a good point of reference, as well as the rules of the CallMeCarsonLIVE Twitch channel. We will not tolerate racism, hate speech, or otherwise hateful conduct. Be respectful to all players (including staff) at all times. Avoid spamming the chat or otherwise being disruptive. Follow all staff instructions, and in general, don't be a dick.

Please avoid discussing or depicting sensitive, real-world topics in-game, especially in text chat or in public spaces. SMPOnline is not intended to be a space for that kind of stuff - it's a place full of people running bits, having fun, and otherwise being unserious. Staff may ask you to stop, change topics, or take action if you continue crossing the line.

Displaying. creating, or doing things on SMPOnline that are sexually evocative is not allowed. While we do encourage artistic expression on the server, there are limits to what's allowed. Treat anything you make on the server as if it'll appear on a livestream and keep it reasonable. Nothing you make should focus on (or exaggerate) the sexual aspects of characters. If you're unsure if what you're doing crosses the line, please ask before finalizing anything.

Excessively sexual jokes may result in punishment, so please keep those reasonable. If staff tell you to stop, stop.

Depictions of self-harm, suicide, real-world deaths, or extreme gore are not allowed anywhere on SMPOnline. If what your making would be too extreme for a Halloween context, don't do it.

All activity is subject to moderation, including actions only visible through client mods. It does not matter if we don't publicly advertise the mod or even encourage its use. Inappropriate conduct performed on our server through mods may result in punishment.

Treat everyone with respect

When doing anything on SMPOnline, your actions impact the experience other players around you. Everyone has to work together to maintain a pleasant server atmosphere, as well as keep the server free of pointless toxicity. Please report disrespectful conduct to staff so we can make note of it or take action if necessary. If someone asks you to stop doing something, it's generally best to stop.

Extremely rude or hostile behavior toward others is not allowed. Avoid escalating issues when disrespectful conduct occurs as you may be punished yourself, even if you didn't cause the original problem. Keep disagreements as civil as possible and defer to staff for assistance if you're unable to settle matters with another user.

Hate campaigning, spreading rumors, or otherwise petty/toxic behavior is not allowed. What falls under this category is highly context-sensitive and up to staff discretion. In general, publicly accusing anyone of anything in-game is a bad idea. Please share any evidence of misconduct or otherwise inappropriate behavior with staff ONLY. Spreading false or misleading information about other individuals on the server is grounds for a ban. If you see anyone doing this, do not participate, document it, and report it so we can take action.

Please do your best to avoid building things that don't fit an existing area's theme. Massive ugly structures may be removed by staff in response to user complaints, so please respect your neighbors.

Cheating is not allowed

While we do conditionally allow some mods that could provide some in-game advantage, generally speaking, software that affects gameplay, automates inputs, or otherwise provides an advantage is not allowed. Using cheats in any form will result in a permanent ban from SMPOnline.

Abusing bugs or exploits in Minecraft for an advantage is not allowed and will be treated the same as cheating. This includes abusing the debug data in F3 to gain information when mining. As we cannot distinguish between this exploit and actual client cheat mods, we treat them the same and punish them the same way.

Abusing bugs or exploits in the server for an advantage is also not allowed and may result in a permanent ban. If you encounter a dupe bug or otherwise unintended behavior with the server, please report it immediately via a bug ticket. Do not share information with other users about it until the bug has been fixed.

Do not circumvent our AFK kick via any means, including anti-afk pools or auto-reconnect mods. Don't attempt to reverse the world seed. Do not use alt accounts in a way that gives you a gameplay advantage, such as AFKing at your base. All actions taken by your accounts in-game must be done by a human and cannot be automated.

Cheating during events will result in a permanent event, especially if it's a competitive event. Please report anyone you suspect to be cheating to staff.

Use mod content as intended

SMPOnline supports some modded content, currently Joy of Painting and Camerapture at time of writing. These mods allow you to express yourself and be creative on the server, as well as document your activities in-game through this custom content. While we encourage people to find creative use-cases for our mods, you should respect our intentions in your use

Modifying mods in a way that allows you to take unintended actions or otherwise automate tasks done manually is not allowed. If we've taken steps to restrict functionality of a certain part of a mod, do not circumvent our restrictions. If your unsure if something your doing is allowed, please make a ticket and ask.

Do not abuse server features

Do not claim limited structures and limit access to them, such as strongholds or ancient cities. These areas are public resources and should be kept available for all players to use and benefit from in survival. You're welcome to raid them for resources, but do not restrict access.

Don't claim natural resources and leave them as-is, such as dungeons and trial chambers. There is no reason to claim these structures unless you have immediate build plans. Specifically with trial chambers, avoid destroying them for your build and, instead, renovate them. We typically will not remove trial chamber vaults for builds.

Do not abuse claims to interfere with other users or towns. Claims are intended to protect your creations only and should not be weaponized. You may be banned if you use the claim system for malicious purposes. Hoarding land around spawn or in developing areas of the map is not allowed.

Claiming land to sell in/near other user's towns/bases/builds is not allowed. Unless you have some actual reason to be selling that land (such as being a town owner, or having previously used/tried to use the claim for legitimate purposes), you cannot sell claims to other users in other people's areas/public areas. This includes trying to sell claims surrounding spawn or admin waystones.

Auctions are not for advertising. Do not list items for auction solely to spam an advertisement for your event.

Don't enforce rules yourself

If someone is breaking the server rules, please report it to staff so they can handle it. You can do this in-game by private messaging them, or by making a ticket if you're unsure if anyone's available. If someone's actions are actively damaging things on the server (like griefing), feel free to try and stop them before staff are able to respond. However, please leave existing damage as-is so staff can record it and respond when they arrive.

In general, though, all rule enforcement should be handled by the staff team. Please do not create rules for your own town outside of build theming. Attempting to enforce town rules may result in a punishment, especially if it extends into harassment. Towns are only allowed to encourage a town theme.

If there's a disagreement on whether a build fits an established town theme you can't resolve, please contact staff for help.

Respect staff and their decisions

All actions taken by staff are made with the best interest of the player base in mind. Out of respect for the privacy of everyone on the server, we typically do not make information public about punishments unless the affected player discusses matters publicly. Please do not ask staff for information about why another player was banned or muted, especially in public chats.

In-game creations depicting or alluding to banned users may result in punishment and a removal of the content. While aren't interested in scrubbing someone's existence from the community, attempting to create unnecessary drama around a banned user and their staff issued punishment is not allowed. Do not assist banned users in evading their bans or communicate for them in-game.

Arguing about punishments in public chats is not allowed and should be taken to a ticket in the CMC Discord. Keeping all interactions inside of tickets helps keep everyone in check and ensures there is no ambiguity when admins go back to audit staff interactions with players.

The staff team discusses punishments internally. We have numerous log channels that are visible to all staff. As such, the staff team acts as a unit in pretty much all punishments. If you have a concern about how staff are behaving, please make an Admin Ticket. Retaliation against staff members directly may result in a ban.
