Connection Problems
I'm getting a 'getsockopt' error and can't connect
The error "getsockopt" indicates there's an issue with the configuration of your computer or internet connection, not with the game or server. Follow the steps below. These steps may work for other connection issues.
- Try changing your computer's DNS settings to point to Google's Public DNS via this guide.
- Once changed, relaunch the game and try connecting again.
- If it's still not working, ensure that your computer's firewall is not blocking Minecraft.
- Make sure your able to connect to other Minecraft servers on your computer.
- Try using a VPN service.
- Contact staff for assistance if you've exhausted these options.
The server says it's whitelisted or down for maintenance
More often than not, this is intended. There should be a message in #smponline-announcements on the Discord about this if there's any deliberate maintenance ongoing. If there's no message, feel free to ping staff and ask what's going on.
"Unable to connect to season5, try again later"
This means the server is down. If it's in the early AM in the ET timezone, around 6 or 7 am, this means the server is likely in the process of a nightly reboot. However, if the server is down for more than 15 minutes with this message AND there isn't a message stating the server is down in the MOTD or announcement channel, notify Loki immediately! This is not normal and indicates the server is crashing on boot.
I got an error with "xercapaint" and "namespaces"?
Players using the Fabric mod loader need to install our version of Joy of Painting to resolve this error. Please use the Modrinth modpack for this. If you're an advanced user, we have current builds of the mod available in #smponline-info
I'm getting some sort of "netty decode" error about an "index"?
If you have Essential mod installed, typically removing it will fix this error. This is a bug with our Fabric protocol support and has not been resolved yet.
I keep getting disconnected for "Timed Out" or "Connection Reset"
This typically indicates a problem with your internet connection. Make sure your connection is stable by running a Packet Loss test such as this one. I recommend using the New Jersey test server as it's a North American server and better represents your connection to our server. Switch the test to the "Counter-Strike 2" preset. If your jitter is more than a few milliseconds, such as "500ms", or your average latency is very high (like 1000ms or more), this indicates a problem with your internet connection.
If your connection is otherwise stable but you're having problems connecting to our server, try using a VPN as this could improve the reliability of your connection. Additionally, using a wired Ethernet connection is superior to using Wi-Fi for connection stability.
