Joy of Painting

Note that Claim tuners may become available later in the season to allow more precise access of Easels and Canvases, specifically to allow Claims where players can place/remove Canvases and paint on them, but can't affect the Easels or place Easels/blocks themselves. Think of a public art studio or something.

Joy of Painting is a cool mod that lets you paint on Canvases of various sizes, all within the game itself. It's easy to burn a few hours just painting with this mod, so be warned. It's also extremely cheap to craft the items for this mod, so... expect folks to start hunting for palettes and sugar cane right away.

Palette

The Palette is essential for painting because it holds your color options. You can put all 16 dyes into a Palette to get easy access to their colors, as well as 12 custom colors you can create by mixing colors together.

You can add Dye to any Palette by putting the Palette anywhere in a Crafting menu with Dyes it does not have, like this:

Canvas

Canvases are what you paint on. There are 4 size of canvas: Normal, Long, Tall, and Large. Long and Tall canvases are double the size of the normal canvas, whereas the Large is 4x the size of the normal canvas.

Easel

In order to paint, you'll need an Easel to put your paintings on. These are extremely cheap and can be placed anywhere.

Usage

Players without the Joy of Painting mod will be unable to paint, but can still place and break Easels, as well as remove/place Canvases from/onto them.

Placing Easels

You can place an Easel anywhere you can place an Armor Stand - they're technically the same thing as far as the server is concerned. They even appear as Armor Stands for players without the Joy of Painting mod, albeit with different functionality than normal. To remove an Easel, just punch it. You may need to punch it again if your first punch removed a Canvas from it.

Easels (specifically on SMPOnline only) can only be removed by Players and cannot be destroyed by any other means. If your Easel has been destroyed unexpectedly, please contact staff.

Painting

As long as you can Build in a claim, you can paint on any Easels there. Painting will prevent you from going AFK, so don't worry if you end up painting for hours. The server will automatically save any progress on your paintings if you suddenly crash or disconnect.

Signing Paintings

When you're happy with a Painting and want to title it, you have to sign it. Click the "Sign" button in the painting menu and enter a title for your painting. Once it's signed, the painting can no longer be edited.

Copying Signed Paintings

You can copy Signed Paintings to create duplicates for your friends, or even to sell. Unsigned paintings cannot be copied!

Paintings start as an Original, turn into a Copy of Original, and then a Copy of Copy. All "Copy of Copy" paintings can no longer be duplicated, making them impossible for a receiving player to make a copy of themselves. To make a copy, you need another Canvas of the same size in a Crafting menu with it.

Every time you make a copy, you retain the canvas you're making a copy of. For example, if I make a copy of my Original painting, I keep the Original and get a Copy of Original.
